From 20 June until 27 September 2020, the top of the Mauvoisin Dam will host an exhibition by Swiss artist Valentin Carron entitled “Un Ami Simple” (A Simple Friend). The installation took place on Wednesday, 17 June, after the Musée de Bagnes decided to maintain its summer exhibition at the Mauvoisin Dam despite the extraordinary situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic. This artistic event held at 2,000 metres in altitude has now become an unmissable occasion for contemporary art lovers and many alpine walkers.
Swiss artist Valentin Carron from Fully (Valais) received the 2020 Canton of Valais Cultural Prize. He has also represented Switzerland at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2015.
For this exhibition, entitled “Un Ami Simple”, Valentin Carron has focused on the image of the mule – an emblematic figure of effort, endurance and composure. While the animal plays a mainly traditional role today, in the 1940s Valais had a herd of over 2,000 mules which transported loads from valley to valley.
